Same, girl! Same!!
]]>It does feel safe here but I still know plenty of people who’ve had covid— I am so sick of having to take covid into account with every decision!
]]>Thank you!
]]>I agree with KB! Good work, Maia!
]]>I love everything you say:). Thanks for reading…and for writing!
]]>Any updates on caraway cookware? Have we deemed it safe? Thank you!
]]>Nicole — I’m currently doing research as well and came across Birch Living. I’ve looked them up in the GOTS database and they’re there under their parent company Helix. They seem to fall into the Good Stuff category but maybe not necessarily great because they don’t appear to have material tracking from source to end user.
I’d like to see GTGS’s review, too. They seem to be a viable option. What did you end up purchasing?
]]>The philips avent glass bottles are very difficult to break!! I tried. I threw it onto concrete multiple times with a lot of force and it wouldn’t break.
]]>see above– we’ve added Kid Kraft.
]]>PVC is vinyl, so no I wouldn’t call these Good Stuff.
]]>Unfortunately these do not seem to be Good Stuff.
]]>I think these are at least Okay Stuff!
]]>yes I do think those are safe.
]]>It is very firm and supportive so this might work better for others, especially if you remove some stuffing and aren’t sensitive to smells.
]]>Banner Toys is made in China and not organic + polyester.
]]>Is green pan safe? What about caraway? Which is better? I want to buy a couple boilers and a couple safe nontoxic nonstick frying pans. Thanks.
]]>I am looking at this mattress as well. I’m wonder if this or Nod by Tuft and Needle (sold through Amazon) would be a better option.

This is a high quality, high-density, US-Certipur certified viscoelastic foam that is free from harmful chemicals, no off gassing or strong odors and perfect for gently cradling even the most sensitive areas of your body without that “sinking, stuck” feeling.
Octaspring Technology Layer: We use US-Certipur certified polyurethane foam in two distinct densities to create a zoned layer of all-foam springs for proper spinal alignment, comfortable cradling and maximum breathability so that the topper does not retain heat and sleep hot. There is no latex in any of our foams.”
I am wondering if you know any more about Dormeo and how safe their materials are? I would appreciate anything you can share with me.
Thank you very much for your help.
Heating essential oils are bad to inhale. I can’t find a wayvto put it into the air that is done in a healthy way .
]]>Hi there-
Yes, were it my baby I would go for Loulouka Stage 2.
Their DHA is extracted with water, but Bobbie formula also contains ARA (on the label as MORTIERELLA ALPINA OIL), which IS hexane-extracted.
]]>Thanks so much for sharing your story! Glad to hear that you finally found something that works for your son!
]]>Yes, Kendamil is definitely Good Stuff!
]]>I used Kabrita for my son starting at 2 1/2 months old and it constipated him to the point he couldn’t poop without enemas. If you are going for the Kabrita Toddler formula just go for the Babys Only Organic dairy/whey with DHA and ARA. My son is on that now at 11 months old and honestly I wish I had found it sooner. He always was constipated on Kabrita and Mt.Capra homemade goat milk formula but for some reason the switch to babys only Organic helped with the constipation relief.
]]>Helix now has a “Birch” line with GOTS and Greenguard Gold certification. I am wondering what the author’s thoughts are on this new one?
]]>Yes true botanicals! I wonder their opinion on the whole line.
]]>Hello there!
I just moved into a new house, and the water is so terrible that it colours tubs and clothing orange over time due to accumulation. Could you suggest a filter that would help to fix this poor situation? Thank you ahead of time!
Thoughts on Levoit true HEPA bedroom air purifiers? We have been running these in our kids bedrooms for a few years and would love to know your take. Thank you!
]]>Me too! Would love to know what the softest options are. We bought the Naturepedic EOS Classic with soft coils and soft latex, but it’s not as soft as our old (toxic) mattress that we threw away. Only have a few days to return the Naturepedic, and struggling to find a mattress that will be softer for side sleepers.
]]>I was wondering the same
Thing. They are supposed to be safe for environment, pets, and kids. Non toxic with no chemicals.
Although I should note that much of what you’ve said above is factually incorrect. None of the vaccines being used cause a false positive HIV test (that was one in Australia that was scrapped because of that glitch). And certainly while you can get and spread covid if vaxxed, you are much less likely to do so, and much much less likely to die.
]]>Please note that you’ve not been kicked off:). I genuinely welcome all views here.
]]>Much appreciated
Monia
]]>Hi Maia,
I am pro-choice on vaccines, and my kids had all their childhood immunizations/ vaccines. In regards to the covid vaccines, did you know that per the CDC, FDA, and the package inserts (including the letter submitted to the FDA for Pfizer vaccine approval; see FDA and CDC websites) that the vaccines do not stop the recipient from getting and spreading
the virus to others. It also states that there is a risk of myocarditis (more prevalent in boys) and blood clots. As you navigate through these difficult times, please remember you can always vaccinate, but never UNvaccinate.
Best regards ,
Patty
I wanted to update this as I purchased the Brentwood Home memory foam topper and despite its certifications, it smelled very strongly of chemicals. I could not keep it or even fully unwrap it from the plastic, due to the chemical smell. Also I believe Tuft and Needle is owned by Serta Simmon and Bedding and unfortunately they plan on applying a chemical to their mattresses. https://sleepretailer.com/mattress/serta-simmons-bedding-to-develop-u-s-first-antiviral-mattress/
So it makes sense now why you wouldn’t recommend these brands, it’s just soo hard to find a mattress without chemicals, flame retardants or other poor quality materials.
]]>Hi Amanda,
It is now Sept 2021 and I was looking for an update too!
Maia, any chance you have this on your radar? I am sure you’re busy with all sorts of research.
Amy’s has a very specific description of what they use (and don’t use) in their liners on their website (I don’t think I am allowed to include the url).
This is what they list:
“Our tin-plated can has an approved, non-BPA interior lining The can end is made of tin-free steel and has an approved non-BPA lining as well as a food-grade seal. The can body is lined with acrylic, and the can lid is lined with polyester. The can, lid and the liners are made in the US and are approved by the FDA for direct food contact.
The can’s coating protects the food from touching and reacting with the tin-coated steel interior that could cause off-flavors or compromise the integrity of the can. The material we use is a double-coated protective barrier and does not contain: . . . ”
(Please see Amy’s site for the list, I was flagged as spam when I tried to include it)

]]>I’m a cardiovascular Perfusionist and one of my responsibilities is running the ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation) machine in the ICU. This machine is the last resort (when the ventilator is no longer working and doing more damage to the lungs). Currently their are pediatric patients that are on ECMO. Who have COVID-19. You have to also realize that ECMO has many negative side effects like brain bleed due to the heparin you have to be on in order not to clot off the machine. But if we don’t place the child on ECMO they will die. That is also very real. It’s not a story of a friend that has a friend who vaccinated their child that had myocarditis. It’s many children in the Icu that hopefully we will be able to save and some heartbreakingly we won’t. That is the world I see. It’s sad. And it’s not one it’s many. I hope this gives light and another perspective.
]]>This will never get put up or stay up…but you are basically poisoning your children. What could you be thinking? Check VAERS site which is only getting 1% reporting and even at that over 14,000 deaths withing 48-72 hrs of the vax you are not getting all the information. The vax also gives a pos HIV when tested. They say it is a false pos. I worked for the AIDS office. I don’t believe that. I an NO antivaxxer. I was vaxed as were all my siblings and my children. But THIS is not a vax. It is a chemical cocktail. The vax does not keep you from getting covid, it does not prevent you from spreading it, it does not keep you from having a hard case if you should contract it and it can cause your death. It is not worth it. I wish you would stop encouraging others to make this heartbreaking choice. There is evidence it sterilizes as well. It has gone through NO human trials because the animals all died in the trials. I will be waiting to be kicked off the page for an alternate view. T Wilso, BSW

]]>Air Doctor units have some bells and whistles that others do not. Bells and whistles like apps and sensors are no substitute for robust air filtration like you’d get from an Austin machine. The easiest way to see the difference is that Air Doctor estimates that if their ($650ish) machine is on 24/7, you should replace the filters every 6 months (twice per year). A similar Austin machine, on the other hand, might cost $100ish more but the filters generally last 5 full years when run 24/7. Modern life puts a premium on time, so if you have a smaller lamp and want to expose twice as much skin to it as a smaller lamp can do, then it takes longer because you need to move it around. A full body exposure can be done in the same time as a facial exposure if you have the largest lamp array rather than the smallest.

It is not organic but they do have one that has organic soybean oil.
But the flavor is not as good for the organic soybean one. I avoid soybean oil entirely. But the Canola one that Tj’s has is fantastic. TONS of flavor and GOOD ingredients! I wish I knew who made it, I would buy stock in the company!
Do you consider other baby formulas?
]]>I emailed “customer service” only to be told they don’t sell the cover with the topper anymore and was directed to a separate company to purchase the cover (“latex for less”). Weird but thought maybe is was a sister company. When I went to it, ALL the photos of the separate company are identical, same listings, same site practically. It’s so sketchy. So my friend who was looking for purchase FIVE mattresses for her new beach house called the company to ask a few questions. They were rude, aggressive and ended up hanging up on her, pretended they had never even heard of “latex for ess” even though “Ken” from their customer service directed us to them in the first place. She went to another company to buy her mattresses (Saatva). It seems like the company outsources their “customer service” to another country, but the service is horrendous and I would return this topper if I could. Super sketched out and don’t even know that I received what i was TOLD the product is. I know there’s TONS of comments but hopefully it saves someone from getting duped. ]]>There is likely a lot more to learn about vaccinations but it is worth noting that the co-author of this article is: Judy Anne Mikovits (born 1957 or 1958) is an American former research scientist who is known for her discredited medical claims, such as that murine endogenous retroviruses are linked to chronic fatigue syndrome. As an outgrowth of these claims, she has engaged in anti-vaccination activism, promoted conspiracy theories, and been accused of scientific misconduct. She has made false claims about vaccines, COVID-19 and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), among others.
As research director of CFS research organization Whittemore Peterson Institute (WPI) from 2006 to 2011, Mikovits led an effort that reported in 2009 that a retrovirus known as xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus (XMRV) was associated with CFS and might have a causal role. However, following widespread criticism, the paper was retracted on December 22, 2011, by the journal Science. In November 2011, she was arrested and held on charges that she stole laboratory notebooks and a computer from WPI, but she was released after five days and the charges were later dropped.
In 2020, Mikovits promoted conspiracy theories about the COVID-19 pandemic via the internet video Plandemic, which made claims that are either false, or not based on scientific evidence.
]]>The only reason you’d want to use pulsed rather than continuous light energy is in the case of a laser or other extremely intense light. This is because pulsed light allows you to deliver a more powerful beam without damaging your skin by ensuring that the heat has time to dissipate between pulses. Time and time again, commenters on this page have pointed out that your statements about us are either false or contridictory.
The fact is that we have every single certification that you currently recommend (and more). Below is a list of our certifications (all of these certifications cover our complete mattresses):
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – License #OT-034423 – Issued Directly to Sleep On Latex
GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) – Certification #C868773GOLS-02.2020 – Issued Directly to Sleep On Latex
Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 – Certification #15.HUS.60646 – Issued Directly to Sleep On Latex
Greenguard Gold by UL – Certification #80101-410 – Issued Directly to Sleep On Latex

I use it for eyesight by placing the lamp very close to my face with my eyes shut…no goggles…10-15 minutes. There is no evidence that the spectrums of light used by these lamps will damage eyes. The goggles are for folks who may find the intensity of light to be a lot to take, even with closed eyes.
]]>Hi Pamela, Yes Tide and many detergents do make the clothing smell. This is a personal preference and I am the opposite of you; I do not like the perfume smell on clothing and maybe that’s because I know how unhealthy it is! Especially for children and clothing that has that “smell” has to be washed numerous times to get the smell out. It’s not worth sacrificing your health for the smell. There are some products that are scented with essential oils like lavender, however those scents aren’t as strong as synthetic fragrance. I would recommend Sonett Lavender Laundry or Tandi’s Natural Lavender or Citrusy Trio. Both natural, smell good and healthy! https://bit.ly/3uRLltZ

I bought two of these guys as a replacement (one of each color) and I couldn’t be happier. Not only are the ducks a lovely pastel color, there are no holes and the plastic is super soft. When my son is having teething pain, he chews on the beaks and carries them around like a comfort toy. He is more attached to them than any lovey or stuffed animal! Simply wonderful!

I started using Skin Trip many, many years ago. In recent years, and in recent years began to note a chemical off-smell to the lotion. I contacted Mountain Ocean who assured me that the ingredients were the same as ever. Assuming this is true – I have no way of checking what they were using 30 years ago – the only other change to Skin Trip has been the plastic bottle which may be interacting with the lotion somehow. Thought I might have gotten a bad batch or some that had been exposed to high temps. Apparently not. Gone is the pleasant coconut smell…. and faithful Skin Trip customers like me.
Thought about ordering from Walgreens until I came across this recent review:

Terrible smell. Expired?
I’ve been using this product for twenty years. I recently purchased multiple bottles from Walgreens to re-stock my supply, but all of them smell terrible. Perhaps an expired or ‘bad’ batch? I’ve opened them all to test, so don’t feel like I can return or I would. Bummed. This was my ‘go-to’ lotion specifically for the beautiful coconut smell. These bottles all smell like paint & chemical. Yuck.
Will add to our list to do a full review, but yes almost certainly better than conventional:) .But like you said, the oversees certifications are not as good as one that’s written directly to the manufacturer itself.

The RDI is the daily intake level of a nutrient that is considered to be sufficient to meet the requirements of 97–98% of healthy individuals in the United States. The US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends a daily supplement of 400–800 mcg folic acid for all women who are planning or capable of pregnancy.” (400-800 mcg of folic acid is the equivalent of about 667 to 1333 mcg DFE—making our dose of 1000 mcg DFE right in the middle.) Our previous dosage of folate is considered safe, but we reduced it because new research suggests higher dosages does not necessarily provide additional benefits.

Great article! Thank you so much for the information.
I have a question for you along these same lines. What are your thoughts on induction stovetops? What are the exposures to EMF with an appliance like that? Do you have significant concerns? I’ve had one for the last 6 years and it broke two weeks ago. I began doing research and have been quite concerned about what I have been finding in terms of induction cooking and EMF. Needless to say that we will be replacing it with a traditional stovetop but still discouraged about the exposure with the appliance.
]]>I would love to know this too, please!
]]>Hi Stefanie-
I’ve asked Daylon to elaborate, and really he just keeps citing the meetings he attends in his practice (with obstetricians and reproductive endocrinologists)–they all feel based on the studies they see that there is no risk to the vaccine in pregnant patients. Although, at this point if you’re young and healthy you probably will not be offered the vaccine before May–and it sounds like you’re low risk of catching Covid in any case.
I would love to know this too, please!

I like Air Purifier Ozone Generator. It’s the leader in its segment of the best air ionizers with the function of cleaning and ideal for rooms with a medium area. One of the main purifying elements is the Nera-filter, whose efficiency is 99.97%. Besides it, there are a plasma generator and a photocatalytic filter. It is almost noiseless and consumes the least amount of electricity.

]]>I want to start by saying thank you for this. It’s so informative and I really loved reading all of the opinions.
My question is for Daylon and his calculations on the vaccine being better than getting the disease for pregnant women. Are you able to elaborate more on this? I feel like from what I’ve read about pregnant women not doing well with disease there is no detail about the health of these women. I’m 33 and pregnant. I’d consider myself healthy (clean eating, light exercise regularly, low stress etc) and I have no pre-existing medical conditions. What would you say the chances are of me 1.catching this disease (we’ve been pretty good with social distancing but my son is in preschool) AND 2.having a potentially fatal or life altering outcome for me or my baby ….and then my chances of a potentially fatal or life threatening outcome from the vaccine?
I thought I felt confident in my decision not to get the vax because my baby will be born beginning of May so I thought I should try to hold out and wait until her birth but your statement has made me a bit nervous.
]]>I don’t have a study to site that says it’s safe, of course, so my feeling that I would be comfortable is mostly based on intuition and research I’ve done about other vaccines or even alcohol while breastfeeding—how much is excreted in milk and the potential harm of the specific ingredients in these vaccines (no heavy metals is a big plus!). I suppose I would also take into consideration the age of the baby and whether breast milk were the sole source of food.
]]>Interested in these as well!
]]>Thank you!
]]>In this particular case, we cannot work on changing anything if we are dead. I am a sensitive, and a two-time breast cancer survivor. I will take take the vaccine, not just for me, but for everyone. I am also not crazy about staying home for the rest of my life. That would not be a life well-spent.
]]>Biggest issue for me is that since the vaccine is proprietary, we don’t know what’s actually in it. Therefore, all are researched guesses/theories, albeit educated ones. It is so upsetting that this concealment has been allowed all these years, and it’s only money/power that keeps it that way.
The other concern is why the big push to vaccinate when the virus has a success rate of 99.985% with no herd immunity yet in place?
]]>Yeah, I think that’s smart all around. I can’t wait until this is over! Miss you guys:).
]]>This has already happened–no extra risk as far as I understand.
]]>My understanding is that all of the above is just because we haven’t tested the vaccine on those populations, so it’s all unknown–and unknowable right now, unfortunately. FWIW, my husband doesn’t see how there would be an effect on fertility.
]]>Thanks Erin–I am across the board of the same mind:).
]]>I have the same question! And if not this one, is there another whole-house system you’d recommend?
]]>Agree 100%

4.6 Fertility, pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy
There are no or limited amount of data from the use of COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2.
Animal reproductive toxicity studies have not been completed. COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine
is not recommended during pregnancy.
For women of childbearing age, pregnancy should be excluded before vaccination. In addition, women of childbearing age should be advised to avoid pregnancy for at least 2 months after their second dose.
Breast-feeding
It is unknown whether COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 is excreted in human milk. A risk to
the newborns/infants cannot be excluded. COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 should not be used during breast-feeding.
Fertility
It is unknown whether COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine BNT162b2 has an impact on fertility.
My question would be were the sick when they tested? If not I would think a false positive test.
]]>That’s what I would do, I think, if I were in your shoes!
]]>Hi Taylor, You’re welcome. Yes, I welcome experts with differing opinions but so far we haven’t heard any. Suzanne
]]>Hi Molly,
Thanks for your feedback. We are cautious with vaccines and think questioning is ok. However the risks of Covid are very real and like nothing I have seen in my very privileged healthy life so I am deferring to the scientists and doctors who know way more than I.
]]>Hi Jennifer, We are definitely skeptical of many pharmaceuticals. There is far too much focus on profit in our health care system. This virus though has been a focus of the scientific community worldwide. I have never gotten a flu shot. I cannot say that I never will as I continue to age but I support your skepticism especially with children. The scientists and doctors in our family know how skeptical we are and they have our best interests. We are trusting their research and expertise and felt it was important to share. I still think a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle is the best protection for our health but vaccines have their place too, especially now.
]]>You and I are similar. I will be 70 this January and have never gotten a flu shot. The Covid vaccine feels like a different situation. I haven’t been able to see my children or grandchildren up close because we are all trying to follow the guidelines to keep everyone safe. That has been extremely difficult as we are a very close family. We wear masks and meet outside. As you can tell from reading this article the scientists and medical doctors in our family are very sure that we should get the vaccine and we will be fine. We are trusting their advice. Thanks for reading.
]]>Thanks Katlyn, we are trying to stay open and learn.
]]>Hi Amelia,
I agree that we should all be open to different opinions. And I like to question opinions to make sure they have some facts behind them. It is good to be skeptical and this is a challenging issue because it’s the first worldwide pandemic that has brought our country to it’s knees in a while. Think of the native Americans who were decimated by diseases that they had not been exposed to before by new settlers who came to this country. We do a lot of research and if you read our article it is not from the media it is from a scientist, a medical doctor, and our family members. That is a small sample for sure, although I think the medical community is pretty aligned that the vaccine is necessary especially for people with compromised immunity and to promote herd immunity without killing more people. Also, sometimes the media is a good place to get information depending on the source. I don’t think it is a good idea to disregard all media. And I agree our immune systems are a miraculous thing and our best defense agains illness. This is a very difficult time for everyone and I agree that we all are responsible for our own health. Just always check your sources of information and stay open. Best Regards, Suzanne
]]>Hi T. J.,
Sorry that you are feeling estranged right now. From what I have read from other health and wellness bloggers; there are plenty of opinions that are against the vaccine. Unfortunately, we don’t read anyone that is against the vaccine strongly that we know or trust. If you know someone who is against the vaccine and has some knowledge about it we would be happy to get their input. The only people I have found are fellow health coaches with no expertise in medicine, pandemics, or viruses. I certainly believe that the best way to protect yourself is through diet and lifestyle but this feels very different in that it is effecting the whole world and killing many people and leaving others with health problems. I am fine with admitting that I don’t know the answer to this dilemma and I am following the advice of the experts. I hope that you can find some peace and please reach out if you find someone with credible sources that offer an alternative solution to the pandemic. I haven’t seen my grandchildren (in close contact) since last March and that leads me to eventually accepting that I will get the vaccine in order to free me from isolation. Of course, I am in an older demographic that is at more risk although we are in excellent health. My children, have been very careful and concerned about us. Thanks for reaching out. Suzanne/Nana
]]>The evidence is not conclusive on whether once you are vaccinated you can still spread the virus. However, once enough people are vaccinated or have gotten the virus and we reach herd immunity, then we won’t be spreading it anymore.
]]>How does it affect our DNA, now and for the future?
Are there any human cells or parts of a human body, or tissues, or any resulting from aborted feces used in developing and/ or administering this vaccine from any of the companies distributing them?
There are so many variables yet unknown.
We all can be confident that Results vary of recovery and treatment from this vaccine or no vaccine,
based on age, tolerance, each individuals level of immunity,
Levels of risk-taking, ability to receive truthful information, building of knowledge and awareness Of your own body and healing abilities and mechanisms used in doing so.
Where is all the data that is working for many enhancing our immunity against this and all other virus/ bacterial infections/invaders?
Can we establish how we can build our confidence in the choice not to vaccinate?
Where can we locate the studies/information distributed on the results thus far of God’s earthly and untainted natural therapy’s, supplements, frequency therapies, and modalities, etc. of cooperation that enhance our own individual cellular activity and protection, as we know from the flu vaccines and outside invaders?
The following statement is vague,
Daylon: The vaccines that use the mRNA (as described above) were able to be produced so quickly because as soon as we received the virus’s sequence from scientists in China, we had a blueprint (basically a map) of all the viral components which could be copied to create the vaccine. The technology has been in development for more than decade. So with the coronavirus that causes Covid-19, scientists read the genetic sequence of this specific virus, and plugged it in to the vaccine. The discovery process for a vaccine is actually very short because you copy the virus that already exists—as opposed to trying to come up with a therapy for most illnesses.
How do you and how can we be confident of the truth of this blueprint?
what other country has trusted the virus sequence from scientists in China? How would you know that you can trust this map and that reigns as the truth?
Are all studies based on this blueprint from China?
Thanks for your response! I think I’ll wait until I’m done nursing to take the vaccine!
]]>So glad it’s helpful! ❤️
]]>I don’t think you’re wrong. Both my MIL and my husband feel very strongly that you should be protected at least for a while (as in, a few years).
]]>I am highly skeptical of vaccines and don’t think the risk outweighs the benefit in many cases But this, as you say, is different. We have a responsibility to help stop this. Some people may (or, probably, will!) have adverse reactions to the chemicals in this vaccine. But many more are dying from covid.
Thank you for being a voice in the holistic health-minded community saying this.
]]>Great article!
I also have never gotten the flu shot (and I am 65 years old ) despite the pressures from my peers who get their flu shots like clock work every year and without hesitation. I also have Hashimoto and still refuse to get the flu shot.
