They are man made, they are very harmful, they don’t break down for decades and they are everywhere. In fact, they are so “everywhere” that 95% of humans in the US have these in our bodies. They are found in the water all over the world. They are even found in breast milk.
PFAS is the overarching term for a class of over 4700 chemicals that are now called “forever chemicals”. They end up in our water supply and simply do not go away in any meaningful way for a long, long time. And once in our bodies they stay there and bioaccumulate.
According to one senior CDC official, PFAS in U.S. drinking water presents “one of the most seminal public health challenges for the next decades.”
A recent review from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a host of health effects associated with PFAS exposure, including cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease, increased cholesterol, decreased vaccine response in children, changes in liver enzymes, increased high blood pressure, increased eclampsia in pregnant women, increased risk of kidney and testicular and breast cancer… and likely much more.
And then there’s this from The Agency For Toxic Substances and Disease Registry…
There is evidence from human and animal studies that PFAS exposure may reduce antibody responses to vaccines and may reduce infectious disease. Because COVID-19 is a new public health concern, there is still much we don’t know.
So why is nobody talking much about this? I believe it is because, at this point, nobody knows quite what to do about it They get into us via the air we breath and the food we eat, but the most important vector is the water we drink.
PAFS eventually end up in the water cycle and become distributed into essentially every water source. They can be found in deep wells as well as municipal water systems. They are not filtered out of municipal water systems.
While not a complete solution to the PFAS problem, the ability to filter forever chemicals from our drinking water is an important step. Unfortunately, standard carbon filters are not as effective as we’d wish. Reverse Osmosis (RO) filters do a good job but come with their own set of problems.
A relatively new filtration system, using Bituminous GAC, has now been shown to be as effective as RO without all the downside associated with RO.
We feel that it is important for us to offer these filters as either an add-on to any of our under-counter or countertop systems, or as a stand-alone filter.
Each of us here at Gimme the Good Stuff has an under-counter unit so we will be adding the new filter to those immediately.
While an effective water filter is only part of the solution to the PFAS problem, it is a solid start.

]]>Because children are more profoundly affected by chlorine than adults are, in our home we use a shower filter with a shower head on a hose so that we can even filter water for baths by simply dropping the hose into the tub and filling it that way.
This shower filter is proudly made in the U.S.A and uses the patented KDF-55 copper-zinc alloy (manufactured by KDF Fluid Treatment, Inc.), the most effective media there is to remove chloramine in high temperature shower water. KDF’s performance actually improves the higher the water temperature, whereas carbon’s (used by some) performance decreases! With this technology, the filter has been shown to effectively remove 95+% of this damaging chlorine, for up to 1 full year (for 2 people) – 2 to 3 times longer than other filters. KDF-55 can also remove iron and other heavy metals, sulphur, and it controls the mold and mildew in your shower.
This KDF-55 Chlorine Shower Filter installs in minutes, with no tools on any shower arm with standard 1/2″ pipe threads. Simply unscrew your showerhead from the shower arm, attach your showerhead to the end of the filter, and install the filter on the shower arm. It’s as easy as screwing on a lightbulb! Must be used with a 2.5 gpm (or less) showerhead for best results Filter is only 3.5″ long, 3″ in diameter.

]]>We’ve come upon a new countertop RO system that eliminates some of those problems, and it just might be the answer to your family’s needs.
Unlike most countertop filters, Zero Installation Purifier (Formerly called ZIP) is not a gravity type filter. Gravity filters, while better than no filter at all, come with certain limitations and problems.
Zero Installation Purifier is a true reverse osmosis filter. As such, the water produced is super-clean. And because Zero Installation Purifier has an internal pump it produces water much faster than most reverse osmosis systems…up to 75 gallons a day! That’s an amazing amount of water for such a compact unit.
Zero Installation Purifier purifies water much more efficiently than typical reverse osmosis units, and it also captures all the water typically wasted. That water can be used for other purposes around the house.
This unit can even go with you when you move or travel. It’s easy…simply plug it in, fill it up and push one button. Done.
Features
Maia now has a Zero Installation Purifier filter in her Brooklyn home because she is unable to drill a hole in her countertop and most countertop filter systems require the old-style faucet .

Water travels through both ERA-6500 and ERA-9500 media for de-chlorination and enhances pH balance. Periodic reversing of disk ensures balanced filtration, eliminates the potential for channeling, and extends the useful life of the disk.

]]>Those days are over! This “Bath Ball” hangs on the bath faucet. It hooks over the pop-up shower knob. A friend of ours has one of those older type bath faucets that does not have one of those knobs, so she simply drapes a wet wash cloth over the faucet. The bath ball can then be used perfectly. Thanks, Colleen, for this tip!
The Bath Ball Filter removes chlorine, chloramines, VOC’s, THM’s, pesticides, sulfur, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide (“rotten egg” odor), iron oxides (“rust water”), dirt, sediment and other odors….. and it’s pH balanced!!
The Bath Ball Filter gives you smoother, softer skin and hair that is less dry…and it leaves your tub and shower area will be cleaner too!

]]>(Fluoride in drinking water is a controversial subject. I would personally rather have pure water coming out of my tap and have the option to add fluoride in whatever dose I feel is appropriate (most likely just via toothpaste), rather than simply accepting whatever my municipality feels is the right amount. Some studies suggest a link between high-fluoride drinking water and lower IQ, but even my holistic pediatric dentist recommends it in toothpaste.)
This filter also:
• Has been tested to industry standard NSF-53 protocol by an independent laboratory.
• Leaves beneficial minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, intact.
• Come with replaceable, economical, long-life cartridge (12,000 gallons).
• Is economical, costing about a penny per gallon for water that is much higher quality than anything you’ll get out of a bottle.
Full installation instructions are included, and installation requires only the tools and skills found in most households. Note: Most sinks have an optional space that can house a water spigot–it will have a plug that can be removed just this purpose. If your skin DOESN’T have this option, you would need to hire someone to cut a hole. Otherwise, you would need to opt for the countertop unit.
All of the under counter filters include a premium series chrome upscale faucet at no extra charge. This elegant lead-free solid brass faucet features a smooth quarter turn handle with a ceramic seat for a lifetime of service – no flimsy, cheap plastic flip-handle like most competitors! There is no spring, so the handle stays in the position you place it, like a regular faucet. In addition to the ALL CHROME color scheme, it is available for $20 more in BRUSHED NICKEL (stainless steel look), WHITE, ALMOND, BLACK, ANTIQUE BRONZE and POLISHED BRASS.
If you live in New York City or other urban areas, you will want to add a pre-filter to improve the functionality and life of your filter (due to high sediment rates in these areas).
NOTE: This product ships directly from the manufacturer within one week of when the order is placed.
